One of the most promising green car concepts out there actually comes from the designer of the McLaren F1, but it seems to be taking an extremely long time to get this little car baked and out of the oven. For example journalist Nancy Durham recently visited Gordon Murray and wasn’t even permitted to see the car. Instead she got to grope it through the cloth cover. Read about that at CBCNews.ca.

His concept is super simple, literally. Instead of building a complex hybrid or fuel cell monstrosity he’s taking his experience as an ultralight super car designer and creating the simplest tiny car he can. It will use a efficient gasoline engine and will be designed for easy low-impact manufacturing. It is promised to be revolutionary in construction and concept, which is the whole reason he’s being so secretive about every little detail.

If he can make the T25 desirable and inexpensive he has the potential of making a real positive impact and real history. The reason I think his idea is so revolutionary is because it’s so simple and requires no new technology. Think of it this way, why do we need new technology if we can make the technology we have today work better?

If we can get incredible fuel economy and low emissions out of combustion engines it seems logical to build simple gasoline powered cars to serve as our next step toward independence from fossil fuels. Ultralight cars like these would also be a good transition to electric cars once battery and charging technologies improve and come down in cost.

Imagine what might happen if auto makers started chasing 100MPG with current technologies instead of hybrid and hydrogen technologies. We might all start burning a lot less gas and slow our pace to peak oil.
