Get Cars Off The Road – Zipcar Founder Robin Chase
Do you know TED? TED is an annual conference where the most amazing thinkers in the world get together and talk about issues and solutions. They share ideas. Now all of us can see what they’re talking about through short videos.
This is a video of Zipcar founder Robin Chase speaking about the future of cars, the environment, reducing CO2, ride sharing, and ideas for getting cars off the road. She argues that green cars are not the answer. We must reduce the amount we drive to turn things around. The simple common thread behind all her ideas seems to be using economic motivators to encourage people to drive less. Like taxing people that drive more. She also discusses an interesting idea of using wireless mesh networks to interconnect all vehicles using open source technology to help tax and control car usage. Revolutionary ideas that sound a bit scary but definitely ideas worth hearing. Her intent is admirable. She is simply trying to find a way to solve the much larger environmental problem.
